Welcome to the Discworld! The only world which floats through space on the backs of four elephants, standing on the back of a giant turtle. The world with its own laws, ruled by magic, power of story and belief that such a world could possibly exist.
This is the world where the difference between heroes and villains merely lies in the perspective of the viewer. The world where nothing is as it should be.
Familiarity with books or movies is useful, but not required!

Formerly the Broken Drum, until it burned down in the city's first attempt at insurance fraud, is the city's principal inn. Located on Filigree Street, it is a rowdy, cloudy, crowded, smelly and utterly disreputable establishment.
Located on the Pseudopolis Yard. The building was owned by Lady Sybil Ramkin, who donated it to the Watch, when the dragon burned down the old Watch House.
The Patrician's Palace is, of course, where the Patrician of Ankh-Morpork rules, or works. The Palace, which used to be the Royal Winter Palace for the old kings of Ankh, has several notable features, including the dungeons, the gardens, the Throne room and the Oblong office, where the current Patrician, Lord Havelock Vetinari, works. It is rumored that his bedroom is next door, but nobody can imagine Lord Vetinari ever wasting time with such mundane matters as sleeping.
The Unseen University (UU), located in the city of Ankh-Morpork and centred around the 800-foot Tower of Art, the tallest building on the Disc, it is the premier magic academy on the Discworld. The UU is staffed by a faculty composed of mostly indolent and inept old wizards. The head of Unseen University is the Archchancellor, currently Mustrum Ridcully.
Located on Widdershins Broadway, opposite the Patrician's Palace and operating the Ankh-Morpork Postal System, under the current Postmaster General Moist von Lipwig.
Biers is a pub frequented by creatures of the night, usually lumped together as "undead", though they can include werewolves and bogeymen. Difficult to find, unless you happen to be "the right sort."
Ankh-Morpork's poorest area. It is considered dangerous even by the standards of the rest of the city, and absolutely not a place to be after dark. Includes the Cockbill Street, the birthplace of Samuel Vimes.
The Opera House is situated in Pseudopolis Yard, opposite the City Watch headquarters. A place of culture, grand building, with a stage, a pit for the orchestra, rows upon rows of seats, and balcony boxes for the special guests.
There are over 300 guilds in the city Ankh-Morpork, including: Assassins' Guild, Alchemists' Guild, Beggars' Guild, Fools' Guild, Lawyers' Guild, Seamstresses' Guild (euphemistically named), Thieves' Guild, Guild of Musicians, Guild of Accountants etc
The kingdom of Lancre is situated in the Ramtop mountains. Although most maps show Lancre to measure roughly 40 miles by 10 miles in size, its true area remains unknown, due to its mountainous terrain and high level of background magic.
The Ramtops are a major earthing point for the Discworld's magical field. Lancre is famous for witches, especially since the publication of The Joye of Snackes (an erotic cookbook) by "A Lancre Witch", i.e. Nanny Ogg. Lancre also contains a gateway into the "parasite universe" of the elves.
Formerly the Dark Empire, Evil Empire or Unholy Empire, with the double-headed bat as symbol, and once ruled by the Evil Emperor, who was, well, evil. It is the mountainous region of winter climate, dark and mystery, ruled by the lore. Humans of Überwald mostly fill the roles of exploited citizens and the ruling nobility consists of vampires, werewolf families and, in the recent times, dwarfs.
Genua is located in swamp area, at the mouth of the Vieux River. The city of cooks and carnivals, with warm, wet, sunny climate. Don't miss the annual Fat Lunchtime carnival on the night of Samedi Nuit Mort.
A quiet and peaceful town, and for this reason is a popular holiday destination, as well as where Morporkians go when they retire. The city is famous for its floral clock; a circle of flowers, each of which opens its petals at a different hour and its (blue-veined) cheese. However, Quirm is most significant as the location of the Quirm College for Young Ladies, which has been popular with the upper class for many years and the birthplace of famous inventor Leonard of Quirm.
Klatch is a country on the Circle Sea. It is also the name of the continent upon which the country is located. The capital city is Al Khali, and it is ruled by a Seriph. The country is a large and powerful nation, commercial rival of Ankh-Morpork. Despite the claims of certain Morporkians, it is a scientifically advanced nation, responsible for mathematics and astronomy among other inventions.
The country is primarily desert, famous for Klatchian coffee. Klatchian coffee has a strong sobering effect, bringing the drinker "to the other side of sobriety". Popular modes of transport include camels and magic carpets.
The Empire was founded by the Emperor One Sun Mirror thousands of years ago and until fairly recently it was ruled by a number of constantly fighting and somewhat psychotic noble families (the Hongs, the Sungs, the Fangs, the Tangs and the McSweeneys), all jockeying to be emperor. They viewed politics as similar to chess; the goal was to put one's opponent in an untenable position, and the best way to do that was to take as many opposing pieces as possible. And it did not matter if you sacrificed your own pawns. The crust of the Agatean Empire is composed largely of gold, octiron and other heavy metals. In Ankh-Morpork and its environs, the Empire is known as the Aurient - 'the place where the gold comes from'.
Pseudopolis is a city-state on the Sto Plains, formerly a duchy but recently declared a republic. It is probably the largest city on the continent after Ankh-Morpork. The Brazeneck College of magic, rival of the Unseen University, is located in Pseudopolis.
Also called the Kingdom of the Sun and the Old Kingdom. Principal crops: melons, garlic and, since they are increasingly encroaching on the fertile agricultural land, pyramids. The kingdom is almost entirely underwater during the flood season, and both threatened and protected on either side by stronger neighbours. It was once great, but all that now remains is an expensive palace, a few ruins and pyramids.
