The country is a large and powerful nation, commercial rival of Ankh-Morpork. Despite the claims of certain Morporkians, it is a scientifically advanced nation, responsible for mathematics and astronomy among other inventions.
The country is primarily desert, famous for Klatchian coffee. Klatchian coffee has a strong sobering effect, bringing the drinker "to the other side of sobriety". Popular modes of transport include camels and magic carpets.
